Keep Up With The Stone Around Your Pool

Stone is beautiful no matter where it is in the house, whether in the kitchen or around the pool. Regardless of where it is though, it still needs to be maintained. We want to go over what is involved in maintaining the stone that sits around the poolside. Whether you have travertine, limestone, sandstone, or something else you’ll need to do some yearly inspections and maintenance on it. Stone Restoration Works is able to handle any natural stone maintenance and repairs you may need. Before you get to the step where you need us, take a look at the steps below to see if you’re able to take care of it yourself.

Of course, you’ll want to make sure that your stone is protected in the most basic way with a sealer. This will help to prevent stains on your tile as well as your grout. It can also be considered a preventive measure in terms of resisting salt and freeze-thaw cracking and shifting. It isn’t a matter of once sealed, always sealed though. Depending on the harsh condition, it may need to be sealed once a year or once every couple of years.

You will also want to clean your stone. If you need to seal it then make sure to clean it first. If you don't need to seal it then cleaning should just be a routine job around the house. You can do it a number of different ways from sweeping, to a leaf blower and power washing it monthly. Regardless though you want to pay attention to stains to see if you need to do a cleaning treatment on it.

Joint maintenance is also very important. The joint between the pool and the stone needs to be done with caulking so that it can expand or retract as needed. This will also allow water to freeze and not cause your stone to crack. You want to make sure that this caulking is still in good repair. Along with it you want to make sure that your regular grout lines aren’t missing either. You can either replace the grout line with new grout or put some waterproof caulking in it to hold you over.

This seems like a lot to handle when it comes to your stone and truth be told it is. If you are feeling under qualified, don’t worry! Stone Restoration Works will take care of it for you.
